Unveiling the Waterproof and Breathable Performance of Surforce Nanofilm Composite Fabric

When it comes to the waterproof and breathable performance of fabrics, some people might wonder: waterproofing is about blocking moisture, while breathability is about allowing moisture through. Aren't these two concepts contradictory? In fact, waterproofing and breathability represent two different ideas. Waterproofing means that the fabric does not let large droplets of water pass through, while breathability refers to its ability to allow tiny water vapor to pass. The primary principle that allows fabric to be both waterproof and breathable is based on the different diameters of water substances in different states. By selecting appropriate materials, adjusting the pore size of the fabric, and modifying its surface properties, it's possible to block large droplets of water while still allowing tiny water vapor to pass through. This way, the moisture produced by the human body can be effectively expelled from the fabric, while rainwater from the outside does not soak the clothing, preventing discomfort to the body.
So, how do we evaluate the waterproof and breathable performance of fabrics? There are three indicators that must be considered: hydrostatic pressure, water repellency grade, and moisture permeability.
Fabric hydrostatic pressure: This refers to the liquid water penetration pressure that the fabric can withstand per unit area, which is related to the pore size of the fabric and its surface tension. A higher hydrostatic pressure means the fabric is more resistant to water penetration.
Water repellency grade: This indicates the degree to which the fabric's surface resists being wetted by water, which is related to surface tension.
Moisture permeability: This refers to the mass of water vapor that passes vertically through a unit area of the sample under specified temperature and humidity conditions, which is related to the pore size and material properties.
The evaluation of waterproof and breathable performance is a comprehensive process that requires thorough testing of the various elements mentioned above. Grades one to three respectively represent waterproof and breathable performance, good waterproof and breathable performance, and excellent waterproof and breathable performance.
Surforce nanofilm composite fabrics, developed by Lerune, are products with excellent waterproof and breathable performance. The product range includes protection-type and comfort-type, meeting the daily commute and various outdoor sports scenarios of wearers.
Surforce protection-type fabrics: Can withstand up to 80kpa of hydrostatic pressure while maintaining outstanding moisture permeability, reaching 000g/(m².h), making it excel in professional outdoor sports like mountain climbing and cycling.
Surforce comfort-type fabrics: Capable of withstanding 30-50kpa of hydrostatic pressure, the moisture permeability exceeds 10000g/(m².h), offering excellent breathability and elasticity, enabling us to comfortably tackle wind and rain challenges in daily wear and business casual occasions.
Surforce nanofilm composite fabrics represent not only a technological innovation but also an enhancement to our wearing experience, paving the way for broader possibilities in the waterproof and breathable performance of garments.
