Electrospinning is a technique for producing nanofibers, mainly consisting of four components: a high-voltage power supply, a spinning head, a collector plate, and a syringe. The mechanism of electrospinning is to use a electrostatic field with high-voltage to form extremely fine fibers from polymer liquid by charge. In this process, the jet is stretched and thinned under the traction of the electric field and randomly deposited on the receiver to form a nanofiber film.
Nanofiber film prepared by electrospinning is made of randomly stacked nanofibers, with fiber diameters reaching the nanometer level. Nanofiber films feature a large specific surface area, high porosity, and uniform fiber distribution, in addition to a variety of functionalities such as waterproofing, breathability, and moisture permeability, etc., which is in great demand in various application such as functional clothing, high-efficiency filtration, and biomedicine, and so on.
A wide variety of polymers can be used for preparing nanofibers by electrospinning, such as PAI (Polyamide-imide), PES (Polyethersulfone), PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol), PAN (Polyacrylonitrile), PS (Polystyrene), and biopolymers like CS (Chitosan), PLA (Polylactic Acid), PCL (Polycaprolactone). By adjusting the spinning conditions, nanofiber films with different fiber diameters, structures, and functionalities can be designed for targeted applications in various scenarios and fields.
